Rattlers Strikin'

As FAMU makes it's transition over to SWAC, they are adding great additions to the athletic staff in multiple sports. At the end of May, Shalon Pillow was named new Women's Head Basketball Coach. Pillow, a 15 year collegiate coaching veteran, has six NCAA Appearances, is a 2012 regular season SEC Champion, 2014 C-USA Tourney Champion, Three Elite Eight Appearances, and Five Top 20 recruiting classes. As if Pillows accolades weren't enough, she brings to the table both Jalen Powell and Jaye Nayreau, as her assistant coaches.

Powell, who spent the last year in New York working with her father at Basketball Results, a training facility, assisting with player development, marketing, accounting, and finances. She also previously worked as the women's basketball graduate assistance at the University of Arkansas. Powell's career however, began at the University of Mississippi, where she worked under then assistant coach and current Razorback Associate Head Coach, Todd Shaefer.

Jaye Nayreau, brings a great level of skills and experience to the Rattlers as well. Nayreau comes to FAMU from Trinity Valley Community College, where he spent the past season as the assisant coach for the community college women's basketball program. In addition to on-floor coaching, Nayreau was responsible for recruiting, player and skill development, opposition scouting, and film break down. Not to mention team guidance, and assisting in community service outreach, and Lady Cardinals Basketball Camps. Prior to Trinity Valley Community College, he coached two seasons of high school boys basketball at Osbourn Park in Manassas, VA. Jaye spent ten years coaching collegiate women's basketball, where he served as an assistant coach at Texas Southern University (TSU) from 2013-2015. He also served in the role of recruiting coordinator, player development, opponent scouting, academic counseling, and NCAA compliance liason, in addition to other duties. With Nayreaus efforts, TSU led back-to-back postseason appearances in the WNIT along with a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship. With Kortne Gosha coming in strong as Vice President & Director of Athletics, the Rattlers are waiting to strike first!
